Buncrana meaning “foot of the (River) Crana” is arguably the most popular tourist destination in the northwest of Ireland with thousands of visitors flocking to the seaside town from the rest of Ireland, Northern Ireland and further afield every year.
It is the main town on the Inishowen peninsula and has a number of tourist attractions and activities including the Lisfannon beach, which sits on the shores of Lough Swilly.
It is also well known for its vibrant music scene.
The annual Buncrana Music Festival is a key highlight of the Inishowen events calendar and promises to be a spectacular showcase of local talent with events scheduled across the two days of 28th and 29th June 2018.
Buncrana will also be host to events taking place as part of the North Atlantic Fiddle Convention from the 27th June to the 1st July. The first time the convention has been held in Ireland, it will welcome hundreds of participants and thousands of visitors to celebrate traditional fiddle music and dance from Ireland and across Scotland, the Shetland Islands, Canada, the USA and the Nordic countries.
According to Tripadvisor the most highly rated visitor activity is a visit to Swan Park with a 5/5 Tripadvisor score.
A close second is the Fort Dunree Military Museum. Fort Dunree is situated 7 miles outside Buncrana on the Inishowen Peninsula, housing a Military Museum, Wildlife Discovery Room, Coffee Shop, stunning walks and majestic views of Lough Swilly.
It is described as a must visit attraction for every visitor to Donegal.
Finally, no visit to Buncrana is quite complete without a visit to one of the many beaches nearby. You can choose from Lisfannon Strand, Dunree Bay or Buncrana beach.
You might not be guaranteed the weather but you will be assured of spectacular views and beautiful walks.
Although Buncrana boasts a wide selection of tourist accommodation from caravan parks to self-catering properties and hotels to bed and breakfasts. It doesn’t have many options for quirky or alternative accommodation types such as pod accommodation.
There is a huge opportunity for local farmers and land owners seeking to diversify in to holiday accommodation or to extend their existing holiday accommodation offering by meeting the growing demand for ‘glamping’ style accommodation with Intupod’s high quality, low maintenance accommodation pods.
We’re excited to be travelling to Buncrana to host an information event on our pod accommodation on Tuesday 22nd May 2018 – 10.30 to 13.30 at the Inishowen Gateway Hotel – For more information and to book click here.
